EnerTEF at IEEE PowerTech 2025

Date: June 30th, 13:00 – 14:30
Location: Kiel, Germany

The EnerTEF project, with INESC TEC as a key partner, will be participating in the 16th IEEE PowerTech 2025 conference, Europe’s flagship event for power and energy engineering hosted by IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and Kiel University.

PowerTech 2025, themed “Powering the Energy System Transformation,” brings together researchers, industry leaders, and policy makers to explore the shift towards sustainable and resilient energy systems through renewable integration, smart grids, and innovative storage solutions.

Sebastião Santos Lessa from the Centre for Power and Energy Systems at INESC TEC will present a paper during the Poster Session on Energy Security and Resilience.

Paper Title:
Synthetic Data Generation for Time Series Imputation: Comparing the Foundation Model Chronos with Established Methods

Authors: Sebastião Santos Lessa, Alexandre Lucas

Paper can be found here: GitHub Repository

Summary:
This study compares the Chronos foundation model to established imputation methods such as linear interpolation, KNN, and Gaussian Mixture Models for filling missing values in time series. Results demonstrate Chronos’s strength in maintaining temporal consistency and generating realistic synthetic data, despite higher computational demands — insights that are valuable for improving energy system simulations and resilience.
