On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Athens City Hall hosted a landmark working meeting under the umbrella of the Athens Energy Alliance, an initiative led by the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, focusing on "Energy Democracy in Local Government." The event was conducted in Greek and brought together representatives from 45 municipalities from across the country.
The mayors and municipal officials convened to exchange experiences, address urgent energy challenges, and coordinate strategies to ensure equitable access to clean and affordable energy — particularly for vulnerable communities. Central to the discussion were institutional reforms, access to the electricity grid, virtual net metering, and the fair use of Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funds for energy communities.
Also present was the EnerTEF Project, playing a pivotal role in supporting the dialogue with technical expertise and vision for sustainable energy systems in the local government sector.
